What my family LOVES about Hilliard
When my husband and I decided to settle down, buy a home, and raise our family we knew that Hilliard was the place for us. There are many things we love about Hilliard but what really stood out to us was the community of amazing people we have here.
Over the years we’ve spent countless hours exploring our community, eating at the local restaurants, playing at the parks, and supporting the local businesses who also call Hilliard home. I’m excited to share some of my favorite places with you in hopes that it helps you plan your day exploring Hilliard. You can find more of my recommendations over on 614 Mom.
Ten Pin Alley
I have so many wonderful memories at Ten Pin Alley. It’s so spacious, and fun! We are regulars and always have a blast bowling, playing in the arcade and challenging each other in laser tag. I would recommend this bowling alley as the perfect place for adults night out or a family day.
If you’re looking for a fun and unique dining experience Starliner Diner is your place. The menu is Cuban inspired with American and Southwest influences. The eclectic menu brings people from all over Columbus over to Hilliard. I recommend making it your first stop so you can try the delicious breakfast. The Cuban French Toast is my FAVORITE.
Coffee Connections is my favorite coffee shop in Hilliard. I can grab a cup of coffee and a snack for my kids and then hang out while they play in the free play space. My kids love the scones and other snacks and of course all of the toys. It’s close to the splash pad so during the summer I always head to Coffee Connections first for an Iced Tea and popsicles for the kids.
Our very own Metropark complete with beautiful wildflowers, a covered bridge, train station replica, and two different playgrounds for the kids. When you go, make sure to stop by the nature center to see the animals and to get a scavenger hunt for your visit. The kids get a small prize at the end.
My kids love Packrat Comics and I have to agree with them. It’s a wonderful place, and every year they celebrate Free Comic Book Day – and they do it big! Even if you’re not stopping by for an event you’ll love the fun atmosphere for Packrat Comics.
Creative Art Bar
Right next door to Packrat Comics is my kid’s favorite places to go on a rainy or cold day where they can make art. We’ve also attended a few birthday parties there and it’s also so much fun! The instruction is amazing, and I have their artwork up throughout the house.
The best BBQ in Columbus is right here in Hilliard. My husband loves the ribs and brisket and the kids and I all love the mac n cheese. Really you can’t go wrong here. Pro Tip: Make sure to order the bread pudding. You can thank me later.
First Responders Park
The second largest commemorative 9/11 park in the United States features a reflecting pool, three memorial walls, art sculpture and steel from New York.
Hilliard’s Station Park
Right across the street from First Responders Park is Hilliard’s Station Park. With the splash fountains there, my kids love it. The park also has outdoor café tables, an amphitheater and public restrooms. Many annual “family-friendly events are held here including Celebration at the Station (runs June through August every Thursday evening) features live bands and food trucks; and Sprouts Night Out is a summer event that happens in June and July with live music, kid’s activities, and food trucks.
Anthony Thomas Chocolates
My kids love taking a tour of the Anthony Thomas Candy Factory. The tour includes start to finish candy production, a fun tour guide, and a small sample at the end. Tours are $1 for kids 3-18 and $2 for those over 18. Children under two are free. There is also a very large gift shop so you can be sure to take home some goodies.
Hilliard is blessed with a variety of annual kid-friendly events. My family enjoys the Bunny Hop in the Spring and Halloween Haunt in the fall. Both events are held along Main Street in Old Hilliard and include a scavenger hunt, kid and family friendly activities and lots of candy – my kids LOVE the candy and dressing up for Halloween and Easter makes for great picture taking. We also go each year to the Old Hilliardfest, a street fair in Old Hilliard that includes awesome food, arts and crafts for the kids of all ages, live music on 3 stages, a collection of amazing jumpies and fair rides for the families to enjoy. And last but not least, the Franklin County Fair. It’s a tradition and one I would highly recommend for your family. My kids love the pig races, demolition derby and getting up close and personal with some of the farm equipment on display.
